Permanent hair reduction can be generally defined as ‘the complete destruction of a treated hair follicle's ability to generate new hair’. To denature the hair follicle it needs to be heated to 70° - 72°c for more than 1 millisecond ms. Once the hair follicle is destroyed it is no longer able to produce hair. The anagen or active growth stage is the most effective time to treat the hair as it is still in contact with the dermal papilla (food source) and there is the most melanin present during this phase which makes it easier to heat to the required temperature.
Another factor which needs to be taken into consideration is potential follicles. Many follicles do not produce a hair, even though they have the potential to do so. Only active follicles can be destroyed by the optical light energy as the hair needs to be in the follicle to be treated. The follicle itself has no colour and is therefore, reliant on the pigment in the hair being converted into heat. This is why you cannot use electrolysis, wax, thread or pluck for 4 - 6 weeks prior to your first and successive treatments. Dormant follicles can be activated by hormonal changes, eg. puberty, pregnancy, menopause, aging, etc or by other chemicals or medical conditions. That's why even after permanent hair reduction treatments, totally new hairs may grow.
This is why it is called permanent hair reduction and not permanent hair removal. With different hair types, growth cycles and active/dormant follicles it is impossible to give a 100% guarantee, therefore, a series of treatments is required.

Racial, hormonal and hereditary factors determine when and how many hair follicles are activated in one’s life time. Individual variation is enormous, and unwanted hair has continued to distress people for centuries, but now you can put your trust and unwanted hair in our hands.

WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT?
The number of treatments is dependant on many factors including medical history, hormonal factors, skin type, hair colour/texture, hair growth stage/rate, client compliance and individual response to treatment.
Hair growth-cycles vary from person to person; therefore, it is difficult to compare results between yourself and others. Even on the same body part the hair is not all in the anagen growth stage at the same time (approximately 5 – 30%); therefore, a series of treatments is required.
Clients with normal hair growth and no hormonal influences can expect to have a minimum of 6-8 treatments for the body and 8-10 treatments for the face. Top up treatments may be required to maintain results, as new hair follicles can be activated and grow at any stage in your lifetime.

Hair that has been successfully targeted will shed up to 14 days after the treatment.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TREATMENTS?
Facial hair goes through the anagen stage every 4 to 6 weeks and body hair every 6 to 8 weeks; therefore treatment intervals are based on these timeframes. During these breaks sleeping follicles will be activated, less hair grows and re-growth becomes lighter in colour and finer in texture.

The initial consultation is used to assess your compatibility for the type of treatment, identify whether any contraindications exist (a condition or factor that increases the risk involved in performing the treatment or may impact the effectiveness of results) and to perform skin typing for effective treatments. Contraindications include but are not limited to pregnancy, photosensitive medications, ie. roaccutane, pacemakers and uncontrolled diabetes. Informed consent is then used to identify and achieve expected treatment outcomes. It is important that you answer all questions honestly as incorrect information could pose risk and also impede treatment results.

HOW CAN I ENHANCE MY RESULTS?
Do not use electrolysis, wax, thread or pluck hair in the treatment area for at least 4-6 weeks prior to your 1st and successive treatments

  • Ensure the skin is as close as possible to its natural colour (baseline)
  • Always use a high SPF sun screen (minimum SPF30+)
  • Use a mineral makeup containing broad spectrum UVA + UVB protection
  • Remove all makeup and self tanning products before treatment
  • Have regular top up treatments to maintain results

Most people start to see a reduction in pigmentation after their first or second treatment. Vascular lesions may take longer to fade, however changes become increasingly noticeable towards the end of the treatment course.
Once you reach your 30’s elastin production stops and collagen production slows down dramatically. Skin rejuvenation treatments artificially kick starts this process through the stimulation of fibroblast cells which are responsible for their production.
